About Stian Eriksen
Stian M. ERIKSEN (b. 1966 in Oslo, Norway) is a man of many skills and interests, although on this WordPress Blog he will mainly write about popular music and singers from around the 1920’s and up to date.
Along with members of his family, Stian was one of the founding members of the Norwegian WACAT organization in January 2000. Officially using the name “Familieklubbene i Norge” (www.familieklubb.no), Stian has devoted a lot of time and effort to this organization and he served as its first President 2004-2007.
He served as Vice President (2014 – 2016), with a special responsibility to front the Club Organization in the media; the results of this have appeared in two dozen newspapers, an interview on NRK Radio’s program “Hallo P3” and a 10 minute guest spot on TV2’s popular talk show “God morgen, Norge” in December 2011. (Note: Because of the misguided Norwegian politics, this organization was no longer given fundings in 2022 – the government clearly opposes “private”/voluntary organizations – and the 2023 FiN congress decided to close down, and the remaining funds were donated to charity)
Stian also served as the elected President of The Voluntary Children’s and Youth Organizations in Östfold 2012-2013.
Stian is also an active Rotarian, adn served as Club President 2020-2021.

Stian is the co-author of the novel “Mörke skyer over Liljehaugen”, a comical soap-opera parody that has not been published in print – but has been dramatized for broadcasting, and was transmitted as a series on Norwegian radio (Byradioen/1991). Stian is featured in a supporting role in the independent Norwegian movie production “Döden jobber overtid” (1989).

His daily work is in administration and accounting for a company that deals in truck equipment.

Stian lives 60 kilometers outside of the Norwegian capital, Oslo – in a rural district called Trögstad with his hubby on a country estate that has been in the Eriksen family since the early 1920s…
His biggest hobby is genealogy, and he has been able to trace his family back to Holland and Belgium in the 1500 and 1600’s.

Hi Stian, felicitiations for this blog! it’s a good surprise for me find your amazing ‘musical corner on the net’. You really got a very interesting and comprehensive material about the life and careers of many wonderful artists! I found your blog just when I was looking for norwegian music specially to learn about seljefløyte and discover how I can find and purchase one of these magical flutes for me. I was fascinated with the seljefløyte since the first time I saw one here ( many many years ago) with a great musician friend (brother of percussionist Nana Vasconcelos). Oh, yes, I already played the flute and also sang and did my musical compositions, after. I stopped playing and making music, I worked as a producer and music programmer in a public institution for 10 years, in São Paulo, Brazil. Hi Teresa, and thanks for getting in touch! Glad you like my writings, as you can see – I have a very varied taste in music, and some of it is from way back when…
The seljefløyte is a very Norwegian instrument I think, not really sure if selje grows anywhere outside of the Northern European countries. Hi Stian,
You have been a very busy man! Thanks for taking your passion online. If ever you vacation in the Philippines as plenty of folks from Norway do each year, many move here or divide their time here & there when retired, you are welcome to stay at our cottage on the sea, at one of the world’s ten top dive stops across from APO Island here in Dauin. Just be sure to share some tales about MUSIC. Cheers!

Found your site in a search for The Three Degrees. Greatly enjoyed your coverage of that group.
Black soul is about my favorite menu item. I enjoy learning about the groups and their members. This becomes difficult because some videos of early performances do not identify the members, and the groups changed.
Wonder if you would have the time to watch the two You Tube vids below and tell me who the members are.

Thanks for writing, and I’m happy to hear you liked my piece about the Three Degrees!
As for the videoes; The Stylistics were never my cup of tea, and I don’t know anything about the group members.As for the Three Degrees clip: It is from a German TV-show, taped 1978/79. Sheila Ferguson tells the audience it’s a song from their latest album (“New Dimensions”, 1978) – she’s the one in the middle. To her left is Helen Scott, and to the right is Valerie Holiday. Working with Giorgio Moroder (whos was based in Germany), the girls worked a lot around Europe, and they were featured on many different TV-shows back them. Searching for the group on YouTube will give alot of results. I also recommend their Facebook group, which is updated on a weekly basis.
